Tell us a little about yourself and why you became a celebrant.
My "Why" is pretty simple. I'm always keen for a celebration. Whether it be a birthday, wedding... tbh, any excuse will do!
During COVID I was afforded a whole heap of extra time at home. While working reduced hours, I needed to fill that time with something fulfilling and thought, completing the Cert IV in Marriage Celebrancy might be fun! Turns out, I found the course itself to be pretty tedious, BUT it ultimately gave me the groundwork I needed to forge a new (exciting) path. Not only that, I've had the very good fortune of meeting some pretty amazing people and developing some awesome friendships along the way.
What does your current role involve?
Ultimately, my aim is to get to know each of my couples and share their stories in a way that feels most natural to them.. Whether that be with a dose of cheeky sarcasm, sincere heartfelt moments or a sprinkle (or buckets) of laughter!
The role itself is pretty diverse. There's the legal bits, planning, writing, admin (boo!), travel, networking, social media and countless coffee/wine/Zoom catch-ups with my wonderful couples!
Any special advice on dealing with wedding-day nerves?
On the day, ENJOY YOURSELVES! Soak up all the day has to offer and don't sweat the small stuff. Remember that nothing is perfect and that even if there are some cracks along the way, that's where the light shines through! Either, you won't even remember those moments, or better yet, you can look back and laugh.
If all else fails... shots? haha đ
I must admit, I do have quite a few couples that have decided to incorporate booze into their wedding ceremony. Some before their vows, some after we've sealed the deal and one other fun-loving couple have decided both! Cin, cin, cheers! đ»
